Abstract
‘What time is it?’
Some old examples (from the 16th century onwards) referring to the clock are discussed and compared to the modern language. In Modern Icelandic there are two competing systems denoting exact time. An attempt is made to explain the development of the younger system and why the older one is becoming obsolete.
